Claire Tabouret

Biography

Born 1981 in France. Lives and works in Los Angeles.

Claire Tabouret’s raw, enigmatic portraiture and group scenes range from the theatrical to the introspective; her figures alternately wrestle, dance, perform, and enjoy quiet moments of solitude. The French-born, Los Angeles–based artist often draws inspiration from magazine images and history books, transforming historical snapshots with her expressive brushwork and electric pigments.

Tabouret studied at Cooper Union in New York and the École desBeaux-Arts in Paris. Since finishing her studies in 2006, Tabouret has exhibited at galleries in Paris, London, New York, Hong Kong, and Barcelona. Multiple public collections—including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Pérez Art Museum Miami, and Yuz Museum in Shanghai—own her work.
